Abstract
Clash of Worlds: How Did Contemporary Art End Up in the Palace of Ryczów?
Between 2003 and 2011, the palace in Ryczów (Spytkowice commune, Wadowice county) served as an important center for promoting modern art. It hosted exhibitions of leading Polish artists, including Jarosław Modzelewski and members of the „Gruppa” collective, Grzegorz Sztwiertnia, Janusz Tarabuła, Zbigniew Makowski, as well as representatives of the so-called Young Decadents group. The palace also functioned as an artist residency and a cultural hub, actively involving the local community – schools, associations, and institutions – in its artistic initiatives. Currently, the building requires substantial renovation. Its owner, Marta Tarabuła—renowned Kraków-based gallerist and founder of the contemporary art gallery „Zderzak” –plans to establish a permanent exhibition of modern art within the palace.
